Do We Need Two Car Seats If Both Parents Drive?
If you have two cars and one baby…do you really need to buy two car seats? Baby gear can be expensive, so let’s talk about when you might need two car seats and when one might be just fine. Every family is different, so there isn’t one answer that works for everyone!
When One Car Seat Is Enough
Trying to decide whether you need two car seats? Ask yourself these two questions:
- Does your child ride in the car every day (to daycare, school, etc.)?
- Will they need to ride in two different cars every day? (For instance, one parent drops off at daycare and the other parents picks up in a different car.)
If you answered “no” to both of these questions, then don’t rush out to buy a second car seat! You can probably get by with using one car seat and switching it between your cars when you need to.
You can also install an infant seat without the base! The instructions for installing without the base are in your car seat manual. It can be a great way to use your infant car seat in two different cars without moving the base.
When To Buy A Second Seat
If you answered yes to the second question, it’s probably worth buying a second car seat to make your life easier! You won’t have to worry about making sure the car seat is in the right car or moving it between cars many times a day.
When you move the car seat between cars it means more chances for installation mistakes - and no one wants that! If it’s in your budget, buy a second car seat so you have a car seat in both of your cars whenever you need it.
Have an infant car seat? See if you can buy an extra base for your second car. Since a base is less expensive than buying a second infant seat, you can save a little money.

Bought for 6 mo old grandson. We will be traveling to Ireland in December and it will be used a lot on plane, in stroller. At home it will be used to go back and forth to day care for car seat to transfer back and forth to car. Quality of fabric a little lighter than I expected but will work.

My 2nd coat as my child gets older!

I love it!
I got the pink plaid and it’s so soft and cute. The only, I wish it was thicker for those colder days. I will say, I used the blanket today, along with another small blanket, and it just proved how well it was designed. My daughter loves to kick the blanket off of her feet, and she did just that with the extra blanket. The Velcro strap on this blanket ensured the blanket wasn’t going anywhere.

Better than expected
