How Does a Car Seat Coat Actually Work?

It's a mom-inspired design change that solves the whole problem.

The problem with regular coats in car seats isn't the warmth. It's the thickness.

A regular coat puts puffy insulation between the harness and your child's body. That insulation compresses in a crash, creating slack in the straps. Slack means the harness can't do its job keeping your child secure in a crash and preventing or reducing injury.

Car seat safe coats solve this with a single design principle: keep children warm without adding bulk under the car seat harness.

The mechanism: split shoulder seams and thinner back

Traditional coats are sewn in a way that puts padding everywhere including on the shoulders and back where the harness sits.

Buckle Me Baby Car Seat Coats use split shoulder seams that allow the harness to sit directly on the child's body and thinner backs to prevent compression.

The insulation is layered around the harness path, not under it. So baby stays warm but is in no danger due to compression or slack in a crash.

The harness straps are snug against your child's body on every single ride.

What this looks like in practice

  1. Parents put Buckle Me Baby Coats on at home.
  2. Walk to the car.
  3. Pull the front panel aside and buckle them in.

The harness fits exactly the same as it would without a coat without loosen the harness or removing the coat.

How it's different from ponchos and blankets

Ponchos sit over the harness, which means they can shift or fly over their face in a crash. They also don't provide real warmth for extended outdoor time.

Blankets work for car seat use when positioned correctly over the harness but they fall off, end up on the floor, and don't replace a coat for going in and out of the cold.

A coat designed for car seat use solves all three problems: Buckle Me Baby Coats stays on in and outside the car seat, is used at the same harness setting as no coat, and provides real winter warmth.

Has it been tested?

Buckle Me Baby Coats have been tested in simulated crash conditions to evaluate harness fit retention. They've been evaluated and recommended by Child Passenger Safety Technicians - the professionals trained specifically to assess car seat safety.

And in real crashes, every parent who reported an accident confirmed the coat kept their child safely buckled and warm.
